We had the super fun opportunity to celebrate James' 30th birthday in April of this year.  I had to do something different for the big 3-0, a new decade doesn't come around all that often.  However, James told me not to do anything, "sure" I said, no problem....  and I got started planning!

We decided that I would come and pick him up for work to take him to his favorite restaurant during his break.

When we got there, I gave him a birthday sac with some items: a tennis ball, a small first aid kit, a golf glove, and an itunes gift card.  I told him that I had contacted his boss and gotten the O.K. from her to keep him for the rest of the afternoon.  The gifts were ideas for things that we could do- play tennis, go on a hike, go golfing, or free choice.  It took him a minute and a quick text to his boss to really accept that this was ok to do.  Don't worry, I know my husband and figured this would be the case, so I gave him the few minutes for it to really set in.

We had a lovely lunch and he decided to play golf.  I knew that if I had played it would have taken twice as long, so I went along as his caddie.  (He didn't know, but we needed to get home in a couple hours for other activities!)

We played at Sunhills in Layton.

It was such a beautiful day, blue, clear skies, warm sunshine and a cool breeze.

We were given and "experimental" golf cart.  We weren't quite sure what the experiment was, except that James had to get out and push it a little when we came to a hill.  Something to laugh about now.

After the game, we went to pick up the kids.  Thanks Becky or watching them!  We headed home and I wasn't quite sure how I was going to keep James around long enough for my next surprise (he wanted to get out and go biking or to the gym).  I was thankful that it was Monday because I used FHE for the excuse for him to have to stay home.  He bought it.  I had invited his family and some close friends to come and eat some yummy guac and chips and other goodies.  However, I need not worry too long has he headed to his favorite spot- the basement with the t.v.  I was like YES!  That allowed me time to get everything put together and begin answering the door as people arrived.  I then just sent them down to wish him a happy birthday.  Thanks for coming everyone, you really set the day apart from any normal day.

Happy (late) birthday Jammers!  I'm already excited for your 40th birthday!
