James and I were able to sneak away for the last couple of days and enjoy our first romping grounds of southeastern Idaho. My sister Jenny participated in an overnight relay race located in the Tetons and we volunteered for their team.
I took the kids down to Grandma and Grandpa Bradley's house on Friday. We are so thankful for their help with the kids! Then we took off to Rexburg after James got off work. There we visited BYU-I campus and marveled at the growth in just the past four years. We hardly recognize the face of campus anymore, it's really incredible! That night we stayed with James' Aunt Barbara and her family. We really enjoyed having a cozy home base during our weekend travels! Family is so wonderful.
Saturday morning we got up at 3:30 AM to drive to Targee Resort in Driggs, ID so we could volunteer for this race. The GT Relay is still in it's building years, so there were only 46 teams, originally 47 until an ultra team got too many injured runners they had to pull out. We got there in the dark, pulled out the headlamps, chatted with the teams as they came through our transition, watched the sun rise, and really enjoyed ourselves! As I watched the tired teams come in I we reminded why I didn't want to run in this race, and also reminded me what I have coming to me in a month (eeek!).
After our shift was over an all the teams had come through, we headed out to Teton National Forrest.
We hiked to Hidden Falls.
We also spotted some rock climbers. If you can believe if, the group in the middle was made up of kids about 10 years old. James enjoyed taking inventory on their gear. Thankfully most of it was made by Pezl. Now that's job security there.
Here's all the wildlife we saw. I know, exciting. But, we DID eat some wild raspberries. That was exciting, and something we only did because everyone else was. We figured it was either safe, or we wouldn't be alone in our stomach woes later.
This spot here is called Inspiration Point. Do you feel inspired?
How about now?
We also rented a kayak and went out onto Jenny Lake, the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. Why? because the water is so clear you can see 30-50 feet down! Mostly it scared me, I like to pretend there isn't anything below me, but it was beautiful.
This is only in the shallow part, but you can see just how clear it is.
Just a couple of love birds out on the lake. We really did enjoy our time alone together. You really forget how much you really do like to talk to each other when you are constantly being interrupted by kids all the time. This break was wonderful!
Another beautiful picture.
Since we didn't really eat breakfast or lunch (thanks to the insane crowds in Jackson), about 2:30, we finally found a Chuck-wagon alfresco restaurant there in the valley and had some pretty tasty food.
We then decided we were too tired to do much else, went back to Barbara's and crashed for an hour or so. Later that night some of their kids came over and they treated us to the local pizza restaurant. It was so yummy!
We then slept well (more thanks to the lack of roosters and the lack of kids) went to sacrament meeting with the Archibalds and drove to Rigby to visit my good friend, Kristin and her family. They served us a delicious roast dinner, everything from their garden minus the roast. We really ate well on this trip.
After a fantastic visit with them, we headed back on the road to home.
Thanks to everyone who made it such a wonderful trip!
