Temple Square

Yesterday James and I decided to take the kids down to Salt Lake City to visit Temple Square.  We have only gone at Christmas time to see the lights, when it's cold and crowded.  Needless to say, those times usually end up a bit stressful, so we thought going in the middle of the week during the summer would be a good experience for the kids.

To add to the excitement, and enhance family time, we took the train.  Here you can see Thomas signing "train" to Miles.

We walked around the Visitor's Center and besides getting ambushed by sister missionaries, spent most of the time telling the kids that not all the screens there were touch screens and that they should listen/watch to what was being shown to them before touching the next button.

After that...we went and walked by the temple.

We then took them to the other visitor's center where a model of the Temple is displayed so that you can see the inside.  Thomas really liked being able to see what the rooms looked like.

And after we decided it was too late for us to make the early train back home, we opted to hang out for another hour and I'm so glad we did.  We ventured over to the Church History Museum where we discovered a display called "A Children's Celebracion of the Book of Mormon." (celebration specifically spelled that way for the Latino influence of where the Book of Mormon was written.)

The kids had so much fun playing in all the areas.  We kind of flew through the exhibit and I missed some of the explanations for each spot, but these were the highlights:  Nephi's boat, A Missionary experience complete with chickens (not sure why) but, the kids really liked them, The car below, and a dress up area in which Hailey models wonderfully.

Afterwards we headed back on the long journey home on the train.  We had a wonderful night together as a family!
