My little baby Thomas has grown from this:
To this in just five short years:
Goofy, I know but doesn't that picture just make you want to smile?
So, for the big 5th birthday Thomas requested a fire truck cake. I looked at pictures and just didn't feel up to doing something that spectacular. He's also been very much more into planes than fire trucks this past year as well. So, I started to look up airplane cakes and didn't find anything that suited my fancy in that department either. It was at that point that Thomas came to me and said, "Mom, I just really need a stealth fighter plane." Ah, ha, and the light bulb came on. "Hey Thomas, what if we made a stealth airplane cake?" "That would be sooo cool!"
Stealth bombers are easy, sleek, not too many fancy frills, perfect for an awesome birthday cake. However, I still had something to learn...a "stealth fighter" and a "stealth bomber" are two totally different planes. I only thought there was one stealth airplane and this is what it looked like:

So, I printed out my template and showed it to Thomas. He looked at it and thought for a minute. Then said, "Ya, I guess that'll work."
"You GUESS that'll work!? What do you mean, you GUESS that'll work?"
"It's not the right one Mom."
At which point I took my outline, showed it to James and said, "He says this isn't the right one." And James so lovingly explained that there was more than one stealth airplane. I had the stealth bomber outline, Thomas really likes the stealth fighter airplane, which looks like this:
I looked at it and thought, that will not be as easy. Waaayy too many angles. I know, sounds a bit lazy, but hey, it's one step up from a rectangle cake with some sprinkles, which is all I got. (Love you Mom!) I was in luck though because with some minor convincing Thomas got really excited for his stealth bomber birthday cake. (I also knew that Grammy would save the day because she had actually found a stealth fighter airplane to give Thomas for his birthday. I just couldn't tell Thomas that right at that moment.) So, Jenny came up from Provo and helped me sculpt the cake. (She has all the "step by step" pictures on her camera). It was fun and surprisingly easier than I thought it would be. I was very pleased with it. Here's the final product.
My cousin Lisa got all the Barrow cousins together for a Labor Day BBQ and we just threw Thomas' birthday party right along with that party.
Here's Thomas opening his presents:

I threw this one in because I rarely ever actually make it on the other side of the camera. That's Thomas and me with my cousin Jake and his wife Heidi and son Ethan behind us.

Here's my Aunt Elana holding Miles.

My kids LOVE going to Lisa's house (they've only been there twice now). They love her house so much because not only does she have a basketball court in her house, she also has a swimming pool. She has been dubbed "Lisa with the pool" as opposed to "Ryland's Lisa." (Thought you would like that one, "Ryland's Lisa"!) Thomas is fearless of the water and Hailey puts up with everyone. Thank goodness it's also a heated pool because it was a tiny bit chilly on Monday.

Here's a couple of videos. I'm not sure why the quality is so bad, but you'll bet the idea.
I know Thomas had a great birthday because he told his preschool teacher (who also happens to be his primary teacher) the next day that he has the "most awesomest" birthday ever!
