I've been putting off reporting on the last couple of months and the pile of events and pictures has not stopped growing so, while James is at class tonight I'm pulling up my pants and catching ya'll up on what's been going on.
Let's travel back to December...
Because of steep airline prices and a growing family we were somewhat forced to drive to North Carolina this year to visit my family. Many told us we were insane. We occasionally checked our mental status. However, having done it as a child many times, I knew with determined parents (a very helpful sister), McDonald's, DVDs, and maybe a little insanity it could be done.
Our first destination was Indianapolis, IN at the Jah house hold (James' aunt). It was also almost exactly 24 hours away. We decided to begin our trip at night so that the kids would be sleeping during the biggest chunk of the first leg. It was a good idea anyway...After driving on icy Wyoming roads somewhere in the middle of Nebraska at about 2 or 3 in the morning, Thomas announced that he was NOT and I repeat, NOT sleeping in his seat a minute longer. And so the next hour he cried about that which also woke up the others who also cried. We were finally able to remedy the situation by moving Thomas to the very back where he was able to get more comfortable and fall asleep again. All was well again...for a time.
We had planned that when it was time to eat, we'd find a McDonald's to eat so that kids could play at the playplace. Did you know that between here and NC, there are not McDonalds with playpaces??? Or so it seemed to us. Anyway, the kids were so excited to get out of the car, that they didn't seem to mind and managed to make the seat benches into jungle gyms anyway.
James doing what he did best, DRIVE!
During our trip I had gifts for the kids to open. Little toys, crayons, coloring books and a new movie.
James took Miles out of his car seat and he was so happy to stretch his back the other way. He really was a trooper the whole trip. He didn't like the dark, but we had a little reading lamp that we set up next to him to solve that problem. Miles also seemed to sense when we were about an hour away from our destination every time because he would begin crying then as well.
And, since we hadn't had enough driving as soon as we got to my parent's house, we left for Charleston, South Carolina. We had hopes that it would be a little warmer there, but no, it was freezing! We had a good time anyway.
The girls toured the grounds of a local plantation. This is Hailey running up the lawn.
Grammy and Grandpa walking to the beach.
We drove back to my parent's house on the 23rd of December to get ready for Christmas celebrations (more to come in a separate post). But, the day after Christmas we got a huge storm! It was so beautiful.
